Women in the media

How does the media portray women? And how can this be influencing the younger generation?

Adele - You may know of the global superstar phenomenon that is Adele. She's stormed sales with many of her albums and has received four (yes FOUR) in the 2016 Brit Ceremony, including global success and best female solo artist. Who would have thought?

Only a few years ago, not long at all, women weren't expected to achieve things this monumental. Yet, here Adele is - doing it for the girls!

These days, females have a lot to live up to.

Take the media for example; women are airbrushed on photographs to make them look 6ft tall and stick thin, when they are actually smaller and rounder.

But the women who are portrayed correctly in the media are slated for their curvier figures.

No wonder young girls are starving themselves into looking like Victoria Secret models!

Don't get me wrong - I'm definitely nowhere near being a feminist. I just care about how the media would be able to influence the younger generation. Behaviour is learnt. And we must ensure that our young girls aspire to be successful and not try to be someone they are not. We also must ensure our young males realise they don't have judgement over others and that they too can be successful.

Now, onto Kesha and the inferiority of females in the media industry. In case you are not aware, the singer Kesha alleged she was abused by her manager Dr Luke who in turn denies the charges. The fact that she is being forced to stay in the record contract speaks volumes! S

he has no choice because if she leaves the deal she will be sued and will potentially lose everything she has ever worked for - in other words, she is being forced to work with the man that she claims caused her so much distress and harm.

Can young girls really be safe anymore?

Inferiority and the idea of the 'perfect' woman has been said to have decreased through the years, but my question is: Is it coming back around?

See for yourself...
